Morning ritual at this point. Put Ruby in the car, give her a kiss and go for a run before work. Cherishing these moments.
My strong wife. She was so tired! Looking at the week that she has had makes me think that mine was wonderful. After 11 years of putting her ear and facial nerve replacement surgery behind her, she had another scare. A new cyst came up behind her ear. Today she had to go get it lanced again. This is something that she has had to do since she can remember. I'm sure that this scared the crap out of her. I know it has scared me, but she has done nothing but try to look for the positives in this situation. I pray that these cysts do not start becoming a normal part of her life again.

Another mile run this morning then off to work. After work we had Trunk or Treat at our church. Ruby loved it! This was the first Halloween that she actually understood. It's so amazing to watch her. I just sat back and took it all in. She's only three years old, but watching her interact with other kids and adults amazes me. I'm so happy watching her be happy. I've never really liked Halloween, but this year it was fun.
Wes and Ruby's conversation:
Ruby: Trick or Treat
Wes: Well hello Ruby. Would you like a red, blue or green ring pop?
Ruby: Yes.

Another morning run in the books, but not until I got to lay in my bed this morning with this beauty. I've been battling a little depression these past few days. I'm not even sure why, but sometimes I slip into it for no reason and can't seem to get out. This week I have really been trying to find something each day that I can be happy about. Today it's Ruby and Jenny. Even when my mind is in a fog those two are what make me happy. I just wish that when I am like this, I could show them. It's so hard to want to do anything besides stay in bed and sleep. I've taught depression all of my life and I have no idea why. I know that I have a great life, beautiful family, wonderful friends and a great job. I have no reason to be depressed. I have no reason to slip into depression. Yet for some reason it creeps into my mind and I get locked into a haze that is difficult to escape. I have read that my celiac can cause this. I often wonder if this is part of my issue. Who knows, I'll keep fighting it until it passes. Until then I will keep looking at my two girls for my happy place.

1 mile run - Lakes Serene
Our first ever run together! And it was in the rain, hat made it more fun. Watching her jump in the puddles so carefree. The older this girl gets, the more I love my time with her. Maybe someday she will want to do a marathon or a triathlon with me.
One more from our run.
Bye Uncle Bob and Aunt Rissa! Ruby balled when they left. It was so sweet.

Worst run of the year! Lol. I woke up after way too many adult beverages last night with my brother and sister in law. Went for a one mile run that felt like 26 miles. It was no fun at all, but I finished it. Bob and Carissa flew in for the weekend so we went Dow to The Keg and Barrel for lunch. Had a great time just hanging out with them. I wish we lived closer.

My bike and run were tough today! BUT, today is Ruby's birthday party! Welcome to the Beast's castle everybody! Her party was so much fun. Ruby loved being Belle. And we are so glad that her Uncle Bob and Aunt Carissa could fly in from Florida to be here for it! What a special day.

Forget anything about today's run. HOLY CRAP, Ruby is 3 years old today. Getting bigger and more prettier than I could have ever imagined her being. Happy Birthday baby girl. I love you more than you will ever know.
I got to spend a few hours today teaching math on the main campus today. Have I ever mentioned that I really love this job?! I never thought I could like a job this much.
Yep she had to do this 3 times today! This girl loves a birthday.

Quick run this morning then off to work. Today at Pearl River Community College we had Fall Fest for the students. Matt and I decided to have a little fun. We dressed up as Forrest Gump and Lieutenant Dan. Major hit! People actually thought that I didn't have legs. We had a blast playing this part. We were stopped all day with people that wanted to have their pictures taken with us.
My awesome group of coworkers!
Happy Back to the Future day!

Great two miles this morning. The weather is still cold which makes for better times while running. I wish it would stay like this for awhile. Unfortunately it is supposed to warm back up later this week. That's the only problem with fall in the south. The weather fluctuates so much.
Great swim today at lunch. I'm so blessed to have this job. I really can't say that enough. Now time to make my Lt. Dan costume for tomorrow.

            Disconnected Trip 2015
A few months back my friend Eric Bailey had me sit down and watch a documentary called Voyage. It was a documentary about a group of wake boarders, wake surfers, national recording artists and film makers that would set on a voyage from Tennessee to the Gulf of Mexico in three weeks. The kicker to the story was that they were going to give up their cell phones for the entire trip and disconnect from society. Being wake boarders, wake surfers, musicians and people that are connected daily to our phones, we instantly fell in love with this idea and decided to set a date to do the same type of excursion with a few of our close friends.  After a number of schedule conflicts and date proposals we finally set the trip for October 15 thru the 19th. Unfortunately not all of the guys that wanted to come could disconnect for the weekend and make it, so it ended up being just four of us.
Eric and Ben arrived early Thursday afternoon and got in some killer wake board and wake surf sets. I joined them that night as soon as I was able to leave work. We made some last minute phone calls and texts to our wives and girlfriends and shut down or “disconnected” from the outside world. The next day Eric, Ben and I went out to the lake and got some amazing sets in early in the morning. Our friend Ricky showed up after lunch, turned off his phone and went out on the lake with us for another session. Ricky could only stay part of the day, but it was nice to have him out there with us as well.  Bryan arrived around five o’ clock that evening after he got off of work. It was starting to get chilly and really windy, so we decided not to do anymore riding for the day. Instead we pounded back a few beers, watched an amazing sunset, made some food on the grill, built a fire and jammed on my guitar for the remainder of the evening. The next day it was too cold and windy to do too much. Instead we laid around the cabin and watched a lot of football with all of the doors open. It was nice to actually watch a full game without seeing what everyone was saying about the game on Facebook. Later that day Ben wanted to go out on the water. With it being too cold and windy to wake board he decided to try the air chair. This provided all of us a lot of comic relief.
I can honestly say that getting rid of my phone for a few days was a pretty nervous, but also an exciting moment for me. I admit that I am way too connected to my cell phone. Unfortunately we live in a society where we depend on these things for every day survival. We are so worried about our jobs, emails, finances, games, videos, music, taking pictures, blogging, twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and the list goes on; to put down the phones for a few minutes and have real “face time” with our families and friends. I do not know how to fix this, and know that there really is no answer, but after this weekend I am going to try my best to fix it even if it is just a little bit in my own personal life. It was absolutely amazing to not be attached to my phone for four solid days. I listened to the sounds of the outside world while I was on my morning runs. I listened to my friend’s stories and actually paid attention to what they were really saying. We talked about everything, really listening to what the other person had to say. I remembered how peaceful it is to sit outside with my guitar and watch the sunset. I reconnected to myself, and reset my way of thinking. It is funny that we called this trip our disconnect trip when it was just opposite of that. We are so disconnected to each other in our daily lives that because of this technology. We are so disconnected that we have to take a trip to reconnect ourselves to what life is really all about. I am personally going to take what I learned this past weekend and reconnect to my family and friends.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL morning for a run this morning! I just wish I would have had more time to get more miles in this morning. And look at this damn picture! Ruby had to show me that her and Jenny had matching shoes on this morning. So stinking cute!
I had not sent a picture to Jenny lately so I decided to snap one, and welcome in the cool air today with an awesome cardigan.

Raining this morning so I had to start my day off on the treadmill. 😢
Jenny sent me this picture this morning and it makes me smile just seeing that face. I've had a pretty bad couple of days. Our AC went out last week. Needed a new compressor. That cost me $1,000. Then last night when the AC guys was changing out the breaker that was fried by the AC we found a major issue. Seems that we are lucky that we didn't burn down the house when it blew. I didn't sleep well thinking about what would happen if we had a major fire. We would seriously lose so much. I just want to keep my family safe. I now have to get an electrician over to check out our set up. No telling how much that is going to cost. I really don't need all of this right before Ruby's birthday and Christmas. But, she does make me smile.

Got up this morning and skipped my early morning run so that I could go to the pumpkin patch with my family and Jenny's parents. I haven't been able to go the past two years because I am usually shooting a wedding when they go. It was so much fun to go watch how much Ruby loved that place. I'm so happy that I got to be there this year. Ended up doing my run after we got back from Mitchell Farms.

These two girls..... I'm speechless. They melt my heart. Our outside AC unit is broken. This forced us to have Ruby in the bed with us last night. This equals not much sleep for us, which equals a tired Chris and Jenny at work today. The one thing I've learned about Ruby sleeping in our bed is that she sleeps sideways, kicks me in the face, rolls over and slaps me in the face, takes up a lot of space for such a little person.

Quick run this morning. Then off to work. LOVING my new shoes that I got on eBay. $300 shoes for $71! That doesn't happen too often. I really didn't expect to win them at that low of a price. Yep, this is a post about shoes. That's what makes me happy today. Lol

Did a quick mile this morning. Not looking forward to the rest of the day. I have to go to the urologist today to see what we are going to do about my kidney stones. This should be fun.

Today was a bit scary. I went to the urologist thinking that I would just be discussing my kidney stones. Well, I get there and the doctor comes in and was acting a little weird. Telling me that I needed an ultrasound ASAP. He saw a spot on my CT scan that was a bit suspect to him that he needed to check out. Well the ultrasound was done and I waited for results. It felt like a lifetime before he can back to talk to me. Come to find out what he thought to be a tumor on my kidney now seems to only be a cyst on my kidney. He says that the cysts are common and nothing to worry about. He does however want me to come back in six months so that he can get another ultrasound to make sure that it has not grown. I'm not totally out of the woods yet, but I'm going to keep living my life like nothing is wrong. It's amazing what all goes through your mind when you hear the word tumor. This is why today's post is of this beautiful smile that Ruby has. She is what I live for, it's not my time, I thank god for every moment that I get to spend with her. Even those moments when she is so stubborn.

I didn't feel the best this morning when I started this brick workout, but I pushed through it. It was unseasonably cold for this training ride. It felt great for the run, but I can't stand riding the bike in cold and windy weather. Burrrrr!
Got these today! Loving my new Southern Miss jersey! Thank you Eric for making this happen!
This was too sweet not to post. I love when Ruby sits in my lap and holds my hand.

Another great day of college football. Southern Miss gets its first conference win of the year. They are finally starting to look like a football team again. Thank God they are turning this team around. Ruby pretended to read tonight when we were going to bed. This was soooo sweet.
Don't judge me by the book she's "reading". It's a great book.

Great run this morning. I did the loop around Lake Serene. It is a great loop to run and has a bunch of hills. This picture was from Live at 5 this evening downtown Hattiesburg. This was the first time that we have ever went down there for it. It was so much fun. Ruby wanted to go watch the band she said, "Daddy, dance with me." So of course I did! It was so sweet.
Had to do a photoshoot for the 2016 calendar for PRCC today. Here are a few pictures of students and past students of PRCC's Adult Basic Education program.

I did not run this morning. I just decided to sleep in even if I did have to run after I got finished with my night class. I hate those late runs. Anyhow, this is the beautiful place that I call work. I love teaching on a college campus!
Also, look who came to visit me at work today! I loved every second of this!
